Our Story
Shelly Cook, Owner and Administrator, built Loving Arms Assisted Living on her family’s 90-acre farm, nestled in the farmlands of the lush Shenandoah Valley. Shelly was at a crossroads in her life; within five years she had lost her husband, mother, grandmother and grandfather. After the death of her husband she recalls sitting on her couch, watching the grasses blow across the fields, praying that God would be with her and guide her path. It was during that time that the Lord impressed upon her heart that she should open Loving Arms. Since then, Shelly has lived her life with the principles of Ecclesiastes 3:1: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Shelly returned to school and graduated from Shenandoah University with a degree in nursing and is now a Licensed Registered Nurse. Loving Arms opened its doors with three residents. To date, it has grown into a 78 bed facility. Loving Arms is a nurturing family environment that was created with a one-on-one family centered care approach in mind, while enjoying the peace and tranquility that country living offers.
When the time comes for your family to search for an alternative approach to traditional “in-home care,” Loving Arms will be there every step of the way. We focus on each individual and provide “person centered care,” which is why we say we are growing together “one life at a time.”
